Do you understand me or what I mean? Definitions related

This morning my son and I went towards the school when a comment of my son I replied with something that had nothing to do with what he I had said. I must say that my son has just turned 4 years, and still has some drawbacks of speech with some consonants, and of course their vocabulary is limited and adjusted to their age.

The thing that surprised me the situation was his reaction: "Papa, I do not understand." Wow I thought. I have to work with him (when appropriate) the aspect that today we raise.

There are 2 ways to ask for confirmation that our message is being understood.

One is asked if we understand what we explain. Which leads us to think that our partners may have difficulty in understanding, cultural or intellectual level. Needless to say, ask for confirmation in this format, may raise animosity towards us. Although in some cases, depending on the interlocutor, can cause the opposite effect, and even earn respect, but at least be on rare occasions and with a specific partner profile.

The second form of prompting is asking us to confirm whether we explain properly. Show humility, respect and download the speaker of the possible misunderstandings that might arise.

Take a reading, and all rely on ... "I explain, or understand me?

usually when you ask if you understand, I suggest you try to change your habit.
